Clean Sweden's coast and seas from plastic during September together with Gumpearl and CleanSea. Every year tons of trash and plastic accumulate in our waters and in 27 years it is estimated that we will have more trash than fish in the oceans. For every toothpaste can purchased during the month of September, 5 kronor will be donated to CleanSea, which is actively working to clean our beaches and seas from plastic.

A single plastic bottle that ends up in the sea stays there for 450 years before it is completely broken down. And there is much more in our seas than just 1 plastic bottle. Every hour, it is estimated that five bathtubs full of plastic wash up on the coast of Bohuslän. In addition, about 94% of seabirds in the North Sea have plastic in their stomachs and millions of marine animals die every year.

CleanSea is run by twins Mikaela and Lukas who work actively to protect the Swedish coast, wildlife and the environment. Since its inception in the summer of 2019, CleanSea has received several awards, nominations and media coverage for its incredibly important work. In 2021, they removed 3.5 tons of plastic from the sea, the following year another 16 tons of plastic and this year the goal is set at 30 tons.
"So far, we have removed 44 tons of plastic from the sea and cleaned over 300 different bays, islands, harbors and coastlines. That's the equivalent of 4.4 million plastic bottles. Many of the places we have cleaned are nature reserves and areas that are especially important for animal and plant life." - Mikaela
